Start seeds indoors 6 weeks before your last frost date. Seed requires light to germinate, do not cover. Plant outdoors once chances of frost have passed. Pinch plants once they've reached 12 inches to encourage branching for more blooms.

Strawflowers for fresh arrangements should be harvested when 3-4 layers of petals have unfolded, but before they fully open.

For drying, harvest them when the first 2-3 layers of bracts are opening, or when the center disc is just starting to be revealed. Avoid harvesting over-mature blooms, as they may shatter or fade in colour when dried.
