Description

A charming blend of seeds harvested from some of our favourite collarette dahlias grown here on the farm.

Collarette dahlias are loved for their open, whimsical blooms, with a delicate inner ring of petals framing their open centres.  A favourite among the bees, this seed blend offers a beautiful mix of colours, forms, and markings, with each plant bringing its own little surprise to the garden.

Perfect for the cutting garden, these dahlias are wonderfully productive and make lovely, airy additions to bouquets. Grow them from seed and enjoy the magic of watching each unique bloom unfold throughout the season.

Please note: As these are seed-grown dahlias, flower colours and forms will vary. Each plant is a one-of-a-kind seedling, making this blend especially fun for gardeners who love a little surprise. Pictured here are some of the beautiful collarette varieties we’ve harvested seed from.

Planting depth: ½ in

Plant spacing: 9 to 12 in
Pinch: at 12 in tall
Bloom time: mid-summer to frost
Days to maturity: 100 to 120 days

Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost date. Place in a warm area to germinate. Plant outdoors once chances of frost have passed as dahlias don't like cold temperatures. Seeds can also be directly sowed in the garden. Pinch plants once they've reached 12 inches to encourage branching for more blooms.
Tubers of your favourite blooms can be saved by digging up in the fall, storing over winter and planting the following spring.
Harvesting
Open-centered dahlias should be harvested when they're about three-quarters open, before the center becomes fluffy and dusted with pollen.
