Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, sow on the surface of moist soil, light is needed for germination. Transplant outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
Harvesting
Harvest when all the flowers on the stem have opened, but before the very tips start to look brown. Harvesting when all flowers are open ensures the stems won't wilt and the blooms will hold their colour well, whether for fresh use or drying.
For drying: wait until all or most flowers on the stem are completely open. Hang the bunches upside down in a cool, dry, dark area with good airflow, out of direct sunlight.
