Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before your last frost date. Place in a warm area to germinate. Plant outdoors once chances of frost have passed as zinnias don't like cold temperatures. Seeds can also be direct sowed in the garden. Pinch plants once they've reached 12 inches to encourage branching for more blooms.

Harvesting

Harvest zinnias when flowers are mature. Use the 'wiggle test' by grabbing a stem a few inches below the flowers and wiggle the stem. If the stem bends and flops it is not ready to be cut. The stem should be firm and stay upright.
