Description

Bring a touch of untamed beauty to your garden with these enchanting wild lupines. Flourishing in soft blush, rose, mauve, lavender, and deep violet, their tall, spiky blooms create a dreamy meadow-like feel wherever they grow. These hardy, pollinator-friendly perennials thrive in poor soils and open spaces, spreading gently over time to form elegant drifts of colour. A favourite of bees and butterflies, wild lupines offer early summer blooms with a romantic, cottage-garden charm.

Lupine seeds require scarification to break their tough seed coat. Use a sharp knife to carefully chip the coat, then place the scarified seeds in a damp paper towel inside a sealed bag. Store the bag in the refrigerator for 10–14 days, during which the seeds should begin to germinate. Once sprouted, transfer the seeds into trays filled with soil. When the seedlings have developed a few sets of leaves, they are ready to be transplanted into the garden.
Harvesting
Harvest lupines for cut flowers when the bottom third to half of the florets are just opening and unopened buds remain on the rest of the stem. This ensures a longer vase life.
